Cyclops milii

Hey all,

Had another 2 milii hatch today...

All good! Except......

This one... Seems to be fine, moving around, active, licking up water droplets, is perfect except the eye....

It looks like its eye is there but the eyelid/brow is fused over the middle of it....

Its clutch mate is perfect.....

Very odd... just thought id share....

Looks like i'll be holding this one back as a pet.... hope he can feed properly... i dont see it being any major drama....

Feel free to post your thoughts and any other similar experiences....
Cheers,

Matt

Hope he survives, seems to be something that wont cause too much concern as long as everything internal is working.

Quick question, how long after hatching do you offer their first feed ??

Bad luck matt He should be alright though, I suppose he would have a disadvantge when feeding but it should def. survive, considering all other types of deformities reptiles have and still survive.

Good Luck

Yeah should be fine i hope.... will keep seperate as i can imagine it wont be as good a feeder as the clutch mate....

and usually about 5 days... though sometimes they wont feed for a while longer as they are full of yummy egg yolk when they hatch!

Thanks brett,
i got 6 clutches from 1 female (12 eggs). 1 was infertile, looked good but never formed, and 1 that went mouldy on day 5 which i removed and threw out.
so so far ive had 8 hatchies, and ive got 2 more good eggs still incubating.

my second female was useless this season, only got 1 slug from her....

It looks like a form of micropthalmia. It is most commonly caused by temperature spikes at key points during incubation.

Hey Dan,
Does it cause other deformaties like what we see with Beardies most of the time?

thanks dan!
was just interesting that the clutch mate that hatched on the same day was normal......
just curious as to wether or not this sort of thing is hereditary? if it was to breed later on down the track? what do you think?

cheers.

Matt

Congenital but not heritable. Not uncommon for only one sibling to be affected. Luck of the draw.
