What herps are they over? I was given a halogen reptile bulb once, it blew into a billion shards of glass over my dragons, that I didn't know about till some six hours later. that was the first and last "reptile" bulb I have ever used.

I was using it for my dragons aswell the first 1 blew into peices everywere in the tank lucky i got my dragons out before any damage was done to them then again this mourning the way the light flung out it would have hit me right in the face if i didnt have the wooden ledge up and it bounced out that and hit 1 of my dragons luckly he is ok.

I had a similar problem but the bulb had been working for about 8 weeks. One night it blew like you described and tripped the safety switch in the meter box.

I also had that problem in one of my enclosures. I use blue 'floodlight' type bulbs in it and occasionally when one blows and I replace it, the new one blows as soon as it is turned on!

Ceramics will be fine for your dragons, just make sure you put a cage over it as they heat up real quick and will burn them if they get up on it.
I know how hard it is with having an enclosure in your bedroom.
You won't need 150 watt unless your enclosure is huge either.

nightowl, safety switch trips because of a current leakage. If it detects that a current is inbalanced (leakage to earth) it will trip the safety switch. Saves lives and equipment.

The number one factor in a bulb blowing from what we have seen is the constant turning on and off of the bulbs. They rarely last more than a week. Part of the reason is that they are in a high temperature area with very little ventilation.

A pulse thermostat is a nightmare for this sort of thing, hence the reason for only using the dimming thermostats on such bulbs.

Having said that though i have never seen a bulb completely like shatter like you are describing.

The good thing about the ceramics is that they can be used on a pulse thermostat, and they will last something like 10,000 hours. So a blood long time. Where as a standard bulb is generally only rater for hundreds of hours to a thousand at most.

Poor quality globes. Most reptile globes are cheap crap. You're much better off using reflector globes from the supermarket or hardware shop.

Use a ceramic globe for night as a day/night cycle is very important.
