I always just tip the frozen rats into a bucket of hot water, been doing that for years.
After a couple of posts on a similar thread I wanted to find out just how much water a rat retained in its hair when thawed in hot water without a bag.
I weighed a frozen rat, 302 grams, defrosted it hot water 30 minutes and after a few seconds draining, back on the scales.
Finished weight was 340 grams, so that's 38 grams or mils of water retained. Given that some more comes off on the cage paper while being eaten it would still leave enough to give the snake a good drink. |

I think it is just the fact that previoulsy frozen liquids in the food item are thawing out, I can't see how it could come out completely dry.

I then shake it to stop it from dripping and feed to the snakes. | | | |
