I know it's a bit of a weird question, but I do have my reasons for asking so just humour me here. Is it possible to desex reptiles? (bearded dragons in particular). And if so, what kind of risk and cost is involved? Is this something that is routinely done, or only in extreme cases? And for what purposes/reasons?
In particular I am talking about fully grown adult beardies - I know surgery on younger animals can risky.
I'm sure it can be done but surgery is risky and expensive. It would require a general anaesthetic. I've never heard of it being done for an egg-layer since its much simpler to just freeze eggs if you don't want the young.
The only place I can imagine anything like this would be done would be for live-bearers where babies are not wanted and pairs must be housed together (maybe zoo displays?). Pretty extreme though.
