Did I get ripped ?

Just wondering if maybe I got fibbed to when buying a jungle python..

I dont think I did, as the guy was very nice and as helpful as you could ask for, but if he was trying to rip me off he wouldnt exactly come out and say that

Anyway, I bought this jungle (pics bellow) and was told that it should colour up nicely at around 12 months old.. but a lot of other posts I have seen of junlges the same age as this one (9 months) have shown some great yellows..

So im asking you guys please check the pics and let me know if im just being paranoid !

Cheers !

Not all Jungles are the bright yellow and black colour that most people seem to like. Did you see the parents of your snake? That is the best guide to what your snake will look like as an adult.

A very nice and healthy looking snake.

Some take longer colour up than others. In my experience the ones that start to colour up very early seem to have the most vibrant yellows but that does not mean that late developers do not end up being spectacular looking serpents.

See how it looks after the next slough. If it looks significantly brighter you will know it has more colour to develop.

Slough time is always interesting for young Jungles and Diamonds.

It can take up to 2-3 years for a jungle to colour up, some dont. Ive seen dog ugly jungles under 18 months of age turn into stunners by 2.5 years and vice versa. Even the parents some times arnt that good of an indication unless they have been inbreed for 2-3 generations as they are so variable.

Some of the pics getting around have the contrast pumped up to give better color i'm sure. Some of the pics i've seen have been tampered with so much that the noise in the picture has its own contrast.

I find it rather amusing that most people wont buy a juv jungle if they havnt seen a pic of the animal, when in reality, with only a very few exceptions, it will look nothing like it does in a year or two colour wise. Unless the line has been inbreed for 2-3 generations jungles are a lucky dip, simple as that.

It's a nice lil jungle. Mine all have their own different colour variations between them. Just like US.
If you like the little fella and are happy about the asking price you actually paid....Then I don't think you got ripped.

Like the rock said its a bit of a lucky dip. I have one 8 month female that is actually get whiter not yellower. And to be honest I think it is the better of my jungles due to the different colouration. I'll post a pic if I can get my crappy 2.0 mp camera to work.

Nice lil jungle, looking at the parents one looks Atherton or maybe Tully and the other black and yellow looks Palmerston, they should produce some lovely jungles so yours has every chance of colouring up nicely which with some can start showing yellow at 3 months old and some don't start showing yellow till 12 months or more and of course some never colour up and many that do end up blacked and faded out losing colour and more black into thegold/yellow.I don't think you've been ripped especially if you're happy with him.

They definitely have with some it's quite easy to see.The US do it heaps!!!Also seen a few pics floating around with the colour having been overdone.

Ripped?!...No way man!!!...you got yourself a Jungle!!!
I think he looks great, and I'm guessing he will colour up nicely. Mine has changed a lot since I first got him. He just shed last week and he is heaps brighter again.
You can't go wrong with a jungle mate!!!

Yea I knew, but didnt know if it made any difference.. as being a newbie I thought a jungle was a jungle..

So what the difference in parents mean as they are both jungles right ?

And how much should I have paid ?

Cheers.

well as long as you are happy then all is well.

I prefer both parents to be of same type(atherton-atherton, etc.)

nice Athertons go for $250.00.
I would not pay much more than that for it.
