Hi All,
Just looking for ideas for home made hide boxes. I distinctly remember reading an article on how to make your own (I think it was with wire mesh and paper mache). Please post your ideas and any instructions on how to make one or pictures you may have.
Thanks!

A hollow log, with both ends covered with wood and an entrance hole cut out of the side.
Then cut it in half longwise with a circular saw. Attach it back together with hinges.
Gives you a natural looking hide with easy access to the snakes.

I was also intersted in it, i went to the pet shop today and they didnt haveanything big enough. I got some cheap cardboard boxes for now but am thinking of adding styraphone and then coating them in that rubber stuff(similar to how you can make a rock wall)

I use gift boxes and cut a doorway in it. Easy maintenance. If they soil it, throw it, it costs bugger all for another one. If you gotta a snake anything like my fellow, those fancy hideboxes would be too much trouble to keep clean - that's just my opinion. They look great but for me very impractical.

go to a worksight and take empty buckets off different sizes. Cut them to the hight you need, cut in a hole and perfect. It is round, which is the way the snake will lay while in hiding and easy to keep and clean and best of all free! If you want to then you can dress it up with some paper whatever it is or cement or whatever, or you could just leave it white. Just make sure you clean it good get rid of all its nastys before putting it in your enc. Cheers

I use those rectangular chinese containers you get your takeaway in but a local place has all of theirs made of black plastic.. all i do is cut in a doorway and melt the sharp edges away and voila.. an instant hide box

this is the one i made, it is a 4 litre ice cream container covered with expanding foam.
i then shaped it with a rasp, knife etc. glued red desert sand on and added a bit of paint for effect. it is sealed with a spray on varnish. (in the end it was almost as pricy as buying one and took hours )

try bunnings. i got a few opaque plastic containers without lids, cut a large enough hole in the rim and turned it upside down. long lasting, cheap, easy to clean and soak in disinfectant, like F10 or whatever. job done.
cheers.
