A rule about scorpians is usually that the smaller the nippers, the stronger the venom coz they hav to rely on paralyzing rather than shear over powering. Damn it hurt. |

I'm not interested in getting an Aussie scorpion because they are not exciting at all. The ones I'v seen in pet shops are little brown things that are flat as anything and spend all day sitting in a corner or in a burrow doing nothing.
The Emperor Scorpion ( Pandinus imperator) is big (up to 20 cms), jet black, and impressive as all hell. They are fat and have enormous pedipalps (claws). Put one of these on your hand and it will impress anyone! None of the scorps I've seen for sale in Australia come anywhere close to these black beauties.
It's like comparing a large female Bird-Eating spider as a pet, to a Daddy Long Legs. I know which I would rather.
I should point out, in case anyone misunderstands, I am NOTcondoning the importation - legal or otherwise - of exotic scorpions, merely stating that once you've seen an Emperor, the Australian ones pale in comparison.

I know they're bitey enough to cause excruciating pain but not death. I'll take death with my excruciating pain please - - get it over with.

The apparent attraction with our scorps, is putting them under some sort of light, and they glow (?), so I've heard anyway. I love the tarantulas, and I personally don't have an interest in the scorps, but many have been subjected to wild collection for pet stores, like the tarantulas (bird-eating spiders), which is cruel. The are relatively easy to breed and grow fast, more so than spiders, so I'm not sure why more people don't do this.
Anyhow, they are like any pet of that sort. They aren't interested in you, and just want to be left alone. Most think they don't make an interesting pet. Also, if you take care, like spiders, it's unlikely you are bitten/stung.
