Hi all I'm a smoker and just got a pair of hatchling snakes and have no where else to keep them except my room...... was wondering if u know of any literature or know for sure if smoking around snakes is not good for them or says that snakes are really affected by smoke....... Please help..... One addiction and the other a hobby don’t know what I should give up, luv them both....... Please advise............ I do realize that smoking is bad for me and the snake but don’t know how bad it might b for the snakes........ Please tell me cos if bad will try not smoking in my room at least...........

go outside to smoke,surprising how much less you smoke when you make it a smokefree house.

I smoke around my Herps.
Sometimes I sit in the Herp room having a ciggy and just watching them.
The enclosures are pretty much sealed so its not like I am blowing smoke directly into their faces.
I think if ever I was to become concerned about the health of an animal due to my addiction I would have to consider my own health as well & what it is doing to me. It is hillarious that you guys are worried about your reptiles health re: smoking so you got outside to slowly kill yourself IRONY!

It's all fine and dandy to condemn the smoker and tell him to quit, but he has asked a question and clearly "just make the decision and quit now" isn't an option for him. The smoke will affect them less than it affects you (they're inside boxes and not directly exposed to the smoke), but it will harm them to at least a tiny extent. The effects are certainly going to be there, but if you're willing to harm yourself (no offence intended), doing one twentieth as much damage to your snakes probably isn't going to trouble you a great deal. Having said that, many of us mother our snakes a ridiculous amount (I've been "guilty" of that sometimes  ) and will put our animals' needs above our own, and if you feel that way, don't smoke near them. Smoking in another room will be enough to bring any harm done to them down to a negligible level.

hmmm. i have only just quit smoking 1 week ago. but i would never smoke in the house, and never near my daughter or my animals. i would go and sit on a chair in the back yard. u shouldnt smoke near your animals. thats not very good parenting
