hi
iv got a 20x20cm 12w heat mat and its plugged into a thermostat which is set to 30*C
its under a 35x25cm plastic container.
however the temperature cant seem to get above 24*C
do i have a dodgy heatmat?
or cant it heat because of the plastic?
one thought i had would be to put it in the container under the sand because its going to have a lesueur's velvet gecko in it and i thought it wouldnt dig down so it wouldnt be able to burn itself?
anyone else had similar experiences or ideas?
thanks,
sam

12 watts is not a lot of power. The bar on a typical electric heater is 1000 watts to give you a comparision. Dont worry about burns as heat mats dissipate the heat. Yes you can put it inside the enclosure.

There was a thread previously about heat mat/cord dispersion. Do a search and see if that's any help.

I had the same problem, heat mat not enough for size of container.
i have mine inside the click clack container and use tight fitting cardboard on top so the snake cant get to the heatmat an this seems to give me a lovely gradient of heat

I have always a heat cord for click clacks, and have never had a problem with it. That's because you can cross it over several times to create a higher heat, while you can't do that with a heat mat.
