Having a fair bit of pride in the way I keep things clean it amuses me to see “For Sale”advertisements that have photos of herps frolicking in their own excrement.
Where is people’s pride? Take the time to at least do a spot clean prior to taking a photograph for the “For Sale” advertisement. I personally think that the husbandry of the owner is very poor and of a disease and bacteria inviting standard if I see excrement in for sale photos.
It is a fact of life that they defecate! We cannot stop them, but a little pride and attention to detail goes a long way.
This is not a personal attack upon anyone in particular, just an observation.

i kinda agree on that statement but hey some people are well to define "lazy" and cannot be bothered but i mean if u aint going to look after ur herp and keep its environment clean then odnt have one at all its pointless having a dirty enclosure that can breed bacteria and all sorts of nasties!
sorry but nothing was directed at anyone

Disregarding the obvious problems regarding hygiene and health of animals...
...common sense, if nothing else, should tell you that if you intend on selling a 'product' you should make it look as good as possible, and obviously, seeing it lying in a pile of it's own crap makes the animal look worse and shows the keeper to be sub-standard - a big no no in a hobby where reputation means a lot and carries quickly...

I have noticed this as well in the many herp purchases over the years and i do agree with you... although i also do understand that breeders must be very busy....

In a way it is helpful to see, at least you get a snap shot of the keepers practices and attitude towards their herps. A Big Stay Away message for me.

Really no excuses IMO! After a visit to Roy Pails place a few years ago I was almost convinced that snakes didn't defecate! That's how clean it was!
If you can't look after the masses, you need to downsize. It's that simple!

I have seen ads that show this and it turns me right off straight away. No , i don't have a weak stomach, it is the reading between the lines. If ya to busy to clean it for a for sale photo.........well.
To answer your question nvenm8 I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't.!!

While its isnt a good thing that they are living in crap, it saves you the trouble of wasting your time calling them.

i recently have seen a picture on this site in the for sale section which is disgusting. i will not comment on what was for sale as i do not want to be so direct and offend or upset anyone.
i am a obsessive compulsive with snake and lizard crap. and i take them out as soon as they are done. seeing a reptile for sale sitting in a lot of excrement will stop me from buying that animal straight away.

I have noticed that in some ads as well.......I always wonder what the seller is thinking...if they at all are thinking!

A Big Stay Away message for me. | In my opinion.. if you have 20secs to place a snake in another enclosure for a photo than you have enough time to quickly replace the paper and clean out a tub. And if you DON'T have time...EVEN if you are a breeder..In my opinion..you're not doing your job*.
*yes I am aware that some snakes will smear their poo all over their clean fresh enclosures as soon as you change it for them.
