Enclosure size

Hey guys i'm just getting into snakes and have got a 4 foot x 2 x 1 enclosure.
i've been to my local reptile shop and the guy their was telling me that i would have to get a larger snake (like 18 months) instead of a yearling or hatchling becase of how large my enclosure is. is this true or is he just trying to sell me a more expensive snake?
thanks for any help

i think it would be to big if your putting like a spotted or sumthing in it... but a carpet or sumthing should be fine... what kind were u looking at getting?

Are you able to put a divider in it that way you are only using half of it. and you can get a foam stick on strip from Bunnings to put between the siding glass if you have sliding glass that is.

if the enclosure allows for it, you can always put in a divider to make the tank into 2 smaller ones.

Just put heaps of hides.... some on a high point, few on the floor ect as long as he/she can hide I see no reason for him/her to not feel secure/comfortable.
As they are so tiny as hatchies you may find that a click clack is suitable, while you decorate the larger one remembering lots of hides.

I'd go with Ace's suggestion of getting a click clack and putting it into the enclosure til your snake gets a bit bigger. The reason you don't want a hatchling (or probably even a yearling) in a tank that size is that they can freak out and they stop eating.

how long do you think it would take for a childrens to get big enough to move from a click clack to the main enclosure

I put my coastal carpet in this piece of cr** at around 3 Months and she escaped. ..to small, then at around 5 and a half months tryed again and she has stayed in there comfortably ever since I have just taken hides out as she grew bigger and the size of her water bowl, feed size, hide size increased.
She's almost a year old atm.
