enclosure size for bhp?

Howdy, at the moment I have my recently aquired pair of bhp's in temporary accomodation - six foot fish tanks. I'd like to make two purpose built timber cabinets. I reckon I've read near every bit of bhp info on the net over the last coupla years leading up to finally getting these guys but have seen no specific recommendations for enclosure size (for an adult). Anybody?
1600mm long x 800mm wide x 600mm high fits nicely where I want to put them, what do you reckon?
Bye, Steve.

just reading an article in the new Reptiles Australia magazine (woohoo!) that says a starting point for the length would be half the animal in the enclosure with the ideal being the full length, and the width being half the length. Height is not really important as they prefer to be on the ground (they say the same as the width would be fine). your dimensions sound pretty good to me according to what the mag says anyway.

Well, Pythons of the World lists average size as 1.75m so the dimensions you are suggesting sound just about perfect to me, even if your particular specimens grow to double the average size you will still be OK Go for it, I am green with envy If you get bored with 'em, I'll swap you a Tropheus colony

Cages for my adults are 1200Wx600Dx600H, they are a large python and 10ft+ specimans are common, as it's already been said floor space is more important than height.

Just a warning as its not quite clear in your post but BHPs are notorious for being cannibalistic so if you have them together in the fish tank you may find there is a reduction in numbers in the morning. BHPs are ground dwelling burrowers so long and would suggest minimum half the maximum length but would personally go for close to full average length in length of the cage.

Cheers Hawkeye
