does the tile adhesive and the varnish give it a bit more weight?

Slightly more, but they're very lightweight. To make them heavy so they couldn't be tipped by monitors or large pythons, I carve a hole out of the foam, stick a heavy rock in there, then seal it up with expanding foam-in-a-can and tile-adhesive straight over it.

i'm having a bash at it this weekend, i have got heaps of old eskies from my work and i got from spotlight 'instant rock' its a paint that comes out like granit

it will look heaps good

That lammington hide looks really awesome, it's a shame that I don't get any more creative than cutting a hole in a plastic tray then putting it upside down. Perhaps I could try sticking polystyrene to the tub using liquid nails
