Does anyone else have a favorite time of day for feeding their snakes? I feed my water pythons about an hour after sunset. That is when they are at their most alert. Feeding at that time is a 5 second tease (at the most) before a strike.

I feed between 10.30 and 11.30 at night when our place is quiet and the enclosure has been dark for an hour or two. I figure nocturnal prey would be about at that time strikes are pretty much immediate. feeding at earlier hours when lighting is on still gets a response but takes a while since hes generally sleeping coiled up with his head hidden under him.

My burms will eat whenever, they're garbage cans. Everyone else gets fed after the sun goes down usually. My temple viper will only eat in the dark, same with my female bci.

over summer, my adults are fed every 10 days or so (about 9-11pm) any knock backs wait until the following week. the younger snakes are offered/fed every 4-5 days, although that's not a scrict regime, especially now with the heat and increased metabolism i sometimes offer food more regularly

It's not Rocket Science. Just chuck the food in any time and they either eat it or they don't.

Thats the wrong attitude, F, one of my snakes was a reluctant feeder until I worked out to feed them at night. Proir to night feeding she would refuse two out of three feeds. If I persisted with attempting to feed her during the day then she may not be the size and condition that she is in today.

The poster was asking if anyone has a fav time they prefer to feed their herps NOT insinuating ALL herps will only feed during certain hours.

When I obtain an animal I do so with the intention of giving it the best possible care for the rest of its life. If the animal perfers to feed at a particular time then that is the time I will feed it. If another animal perfers been feed at another time then that is the time I'll feed that animal at that time.

Fuscus, are you saying that a snake should feed every time food is offered and if it doesn't there is something wrong?
