Feeding time

Should you move your snake into a seperate container for feeding ?
If so, why?

Cheers

some say yes some say no.

YES.... so your snake doesnt think that everytime you open the door that its going to get fed.

NO.... so your snake doesnt think that everytime it gets taken out its going to get fed.

Personally i feed in the enclosure and havent had a problem

Some say yes so the snake doesn't associate you opening the enclosure with having a feed.

That said, I feed all of mine in their enclosures and have never had a problem.

Ok, so if Im to feed it in its tank, which I think the shop where its being held has been, should I lay something under it?

Sorry for the questions, Im new to reptile ownership and want to know as much as I can before I pick it up.

oooh, i see know, lol, what i do for my python is just drop it right in front of him and he'll get it, otherwise if i put it somewhere else (my pythons habit) he can smell it and cant see it and bites anything that moves. I find it alot easier to put in front.

cheers and good luck

Get some tweezers and just dangle it in front of its head to feed it.

if you have more than one snake in an enclosure then defintely separate. otherwise i see no need to do so

my spotted lives on red desert sand so when i feed her i remove her from her cage so she doesnt swallow unnecessary sand stuck to a thawed out mouse which can cause compaction etc. I find its easier to clean up any mess in a small feeding container rather than her cage.If she didnt live on sand i would probably still feed her that way as i lke the interaction with her.

yeah i take mine out to feed. he's only young and i dont want him to learn any bad habits. or associate my hands with food so i also feed with tongs also dont want him to miss and bite me lol.
also when he moves into his big enclosure the substrate will be repti bark so i dont want to feed him on this as i dont want it eaten so will take him out to feed

Yeah the main thing I was worried about was foreign matter from the enclosure floor being swallowed during feeding...

place newspaper down it wont swallow that and its easy to clean up .........it is best to place the pinkie in front of snake using plastic tongs like ice grabbers or anything like that just so you wont cop a tag .metal can be bad because if your snake misses the mouse and hits the metal it can cause damage to your snakes mouth when it starts on adult size hold the mouse at the base of the hind legs ........you can get baby spoons that have plastic coated mouth piece if you use a set of them as tweezers sort of like salad tongs they work the best with little pythons...............RBB
