Female childreni

Just wandering if anyone has a female childreni that they breed with that feeds while she is gravid? As i bought a breeding pair a while ago now and she is a VERY fat snake and me and a few friends thought she was gravid but walked in to do a feed 10 minutes ago and now she is finished just after a few opinions.

Rick

Rick,
It would be highly unusual for her to be gravid at the moment.
They breed from April onwards and lay in October, Hatch December as a real rough guide.
For the complete guide try here:

thanks Ad i know when they breed but this guy was keeping them fairly cool and i have seen them mating as well about 2 months ago but i think she may just be an overweight girl and maybe she will lose the extra kilo's if she will breed for me this coming season.

Thanks Rick

No worries Rick, It sounds like she is in good condition for breeding.
Do you house them together? They go for it early, Im thinking of putting mine together soon.
There was a guy on ausherps.yahoo who advertised gtps out of season, i think they manipulated the conditions to the northern hemisphere for some reason. 99.9% sure it was all disproved, but got me thinking anythings possible though.
Cheers

No food for 3 months sounds cruel but believe me if she is VERY fat, then this is the only choice you have. Keep the heat up to her all winter which will mean she won't breed next year or leave it on for 2 more weeks without food and then turn it of to get her ready to breed which may help her lose some weight, but she sounds like she needs a diet one way or the other.

This is the time of year when your breeding snakes should be in condition for cooling and mating, for childreni i normally give 2 or 3 more feeds (from now) and let that pass through then start slowly dropping the temps and introduce about a month after, normally about the end of may.

Pythons (most repitles) need to be cycled before they will breed they relie on enviromental ques to trigger breeding.

Thats how i have done it for the past few years but i have done it a few different ways.
It's not good to give snakes a sudden drop in temp, dropping temps slow is more natural and allows them time to adjust to the "winter" time, i normally drop temps over 2 weeks or so until they are down to cooling temps which for childreni i go down to about 19c night temps and 23c day temp.
I have also bred them by giving them a constant cooling temp of about 22c but i seem to get a better response from males with a cooler night temp as i do with most pythons.
