first wild herp experience (besides garden skinks lol)

YEY!

in the 10+ years ive lived in my house, thinking i would never see a snake besides my little george, ive now seen a common green tree snake i was sooooo surprised and VERY VERY happy! i tried to catch it to move it (the neighbors were going to decapitate it otherwise) but it was too fast for me they didnt decapitate it, they didnt even go near the tree it went up they were soo scared and uneducated! in the end it went across the road safely and back were it came from (there is alot of trees and palms etc in our neighbors front yard across the road) i thought i'd never see a snake untill i move but the greenie obviously proved me wrong oh, and sorry i couldnt take piccies, i was too busy going for my snake hook and shoes, there are ALOT of bindies and my feets dont like them
thought i'd share my excitement!
regards,

Nat

he/she was a very beautiful snake! its the first green tree ive seen first up too. i guess thats since nobody has them in captivity on display. ive actually always wanted to keep a couple, very nice looking snakes. ive always wanted to go herping, but there is nowhere close to where i live, so i hardly ever get the chance to see anything (i dont have a car..) but i will as soon as i get a car thats the first thing im gonna do! then the beach of course

Those things are SO quick.

I see them often down the road, usually dead but every 2-3 days a live one... Always the same scenario - 3/4 of the way crossing the road, I get close so it turns around and runs back.

Last night my Husky got out so I was chasing him for over an hour through paddocks, randomly I got scared I'd stand on a snake, point the torch down and there was an 8ft carpet slithering. My dog was running around the area so I stayed with the python and my brothers and their friends rounded the dog up. I didn't want to leave the python as my dog knew I was watching something and he'd destroy it.

ETA: Also a lot of red belly blacks.

Huskies are terrible for trying to eat things

We're babysitting a budgie at the moment, it's in our outdoor aviary - my partner's Husky sits in front of the aviary door, like he's guarding his prize or something

I saw a massive carpet python in the middle of my street once, that's just about my only experience with wild herps

common treesnakes arnt actually very hard to catch, the first herp i ever caught apart from little skink species was a tree snake, IMO flies can be harder to catch. The challenge to me(now) is getting in and being able to shoot them without disurbing them at all, Spotting the critters to start with is the hardest part. Catching herps is just for kids, something most ppl should grow out of IMO.

Another one of the first herp related memories stuck in my head was seeing a brown snake nail a water dragon, such speed and deadly force was just awesome, but at the time i mainly just felt sorry for the dragon.

i got him on my hook, and took him out of the tree, and put him down on the grass but he must have gotten spooked by all my family and next door in a circle around him. mum raced inside to get a pillowcase and it went straight back up the tree i took ages to get it out of we were looking for it, and it slithered down the back of the tree, and the next thing i know i see this little green thing crossing the road hehe

I'd love to see a greeny. Friend of mine did but hit it with a shovel. Could've strangled her. We get a lot of red belly blacks at our back fence and have eastern browns on the ridge above us. Son's friend found a 8cm brown in his shoe in his wardrobe. Trouble is the teenagers around here think that the red bellies are great to chase. Had to get the cops to put the last red belly into protective custody. Is it true that green tree pythons can breed with browns in the wild and can look like a greeny but can be venomous?
