There is a small amount of heat as all electrical items, but not enough as to use for a heat source. I would suggest a cage around it so the animal does not get caught.

They can be worse than a heat lamp for burns . One of mine took to curling on top of the metal box that holds the light bar . It slowly heats up , doesnt give a quick painfull burn , so she didnt move untill she had some nasty damage . She is ok now but still scared years later . They can also push the glass bar out , if it falls and breaks they could be sliding around on broken glass , ouch . An easy way to fix is to wrap some wire mesh in a u shape over the light and run a cable tie through the cap between light box and light bar .

i think i worded it wrong i wont to use one in a display inclosure jsut to light the enclosure up, and would love it if no heat came out ( i no all electrical things have heat) just being in cairns if it produced alot of heat it would be way to hot all my heat is off in all my enclosures
