I have a couple fussy feeders that will only take live. I always ensure they take and kill the offered prey, I never just leave it in with the snake and assume it will eat it.
Unfortunately for this snake, it's owner had to learn the hard way.

Of all the snakes to do that with, but a Ball Python. They are extremely timid snakes. They are also neutorious for only taking live prey. Poor thing. I am very much of the belief that frozen thawed is the way to go, but I have a few snakes that I feed live to. That's sickening.

We should have a "Must Read" forum or a "pitfall" forum. And this should be in it. |

People need to understand that captivity isn't a true preditor/prey situation. I just hope that snake didn't suffer long...

In captivity the rat or mouse can't just run away if the snake doesn't want it like they can in the wild,so like I said I NEVER walk away from a live food item,I always wait untill the food item is completey dead. But this is only my opinion and I don't suggest anyone use my method,it's just the one that works for me that's all.Frozen is probably better.lol

| | | | I would never feed live food to my pythons, ever. I have seen other peoples snakes get shredded by rats even during constriction. However, I am biased on this topic as i have never had a troublesome feeder but live food would always be me last resort.
