Just wondering why so many people out there are not willing to freight? Sometimes it is really hard to get the snake you want in one state (if u are after a certain age or someting) abd when you find what you want (and sometimes even in the same state) people are just not willing to get off the backsides and go to the airport.
We are willing to pay the extra, and even more to pay you for fuel to the airport and what not, so why are people still not wanting to do so?
At present i am after an adult female spotted, and everyone ive talked to just doesnt seem to want to freight! Some people use the excuse of not wanting to muck around will export permits, others just don't want to go to the airport.
Herps are becoming such a big thing and it would be great if everyone was willing to co-operate with one another.

Sweethips you'll probably find it's got more to do with the fact that if you read back through some of the threads there has been a lot of issues with Australian airExpress who is the main courier for reptile freighting. Horsenz only just had a HUGE issue with AaE this last weekend where her snake didn't turn up for almost 5days.
Please don't be hard on the seller as it's more than just an issue of going to the airport in most cases.

im not being hard on the sellers, but where i live it is nealy impossible to get herps, so i need to get them anywhere else i can, but that is hard when others arnt willing to try and freight. i understant that aust airexpress can be problematic for some people but i have never had any major problems before. i just wanted to get a few opinions and see if anyone else feels they have this problem.

Huge issues to the individual their track record is pretty dam good considering the amount of "perishables" they freight, the issue is more I think the cost of petrol we live 1 1/2 from the airport have a large car so costs appox' $30 in fuel to get there, some states charge for export permits so it can make it prohibitive.
There are still many willing to freight try some of the bigger breeders.

There are issues involved yes, but you need to work out how much you really want to keep pythons or any reptile. Check my thread on AAE I posted yesterday, this will highlight the determination I have to get my Breeding pair of Bredlis. I am dealing with a highly respected dealer in QLD and he is more than willing to freight interstate. The girl of the pair is coming from a local breeder so freight isn't an issue. Fill out your Import permits , they are easy and at $20 (NSW) not that expensive. My advice to you is to continue looking around, you will find your python and you will be able to get him or her freighted if you have patience, we snake keepers are a minority and are normally treated as such.......... But that is also what makes our hobby special.

Most breeders etc are willing to freight...
When you are after something very specific though you will ind it more difficult, it's like buying a used car...you can find a Commodore no worries, but it's hard to find that pink one you wanted

I totally understand as We are going through the same situation this year as we are in QLD and looking to buy a female diamond by the end of the year but we can't find any that are for sale up here in the age bracket we want. So we know we are going to have to go interstate to purchase one and it's difficult because then you're buying without physically seeing the snake first and then there's the whole freighting issue as well. I mean I'm even hesitant to purchase a snake I have to get freighted let alone finding someone to freight it to begin with.
It's a tought situation and unfortunately for both of us I think it's going to be a long road before we find something to buy and someone who's willing to freight!
Good Luck Sweethips

thanks mrsshep77, i live in Emerald, Central Queensland, and i cant seem to find a adult female spotted anywhere. i contacted 3 people out of state and all turned me down flat, even though i offered to pay all petrol cost to airport and back, i offered to pay for the export permit and everything and still they said no. finding people to freight seems very hard and finding people localy who have what i want is even harder!

To be honest i would not freight animals unless 100% necessary , by the time you send off an import / export permit , wait two - three weeks for it , pay the fee for it . then you got to drive to the airport ( 3 hour round trip for me ) , stuff around with AAE ..... there goes my whole day , so by the time i have sent the animal i'm out of pocket at least $50 or more ...then you have to hope that it gets there .
Much easier to sell locally , and i am sure if you look around you will find soem one selling in your area .

I have NEVER had any problems sending or receiving reptiles on AAE. I know that sometimes there is the occasional stuff on their behalf. But this should NOT stop people sending interstate. If people are willing to pay the freight - usually around $50 - $100, export permit $20 and put in for the cost of petrol - then why are people not willing to get up off their bums and do it. If you have someone willing to pay a premium price for a reptile and cover the costs then why not help them out. I recently paid top dollar ( in my opinion much to much ) to get a female hypo coastal to Emerald ( only paid that much because it was what we wanted) also paid top dollar for freight - to get the snake from Melbourne to Emerald. Had no probs with AAE and the seller had no probs freighting - so why are others not doing the same.
This is a hobby that is growing fast - so why are we not helping each other out??????
If someone is getting a snake sent to them, they seem to have no problem driving the 1 and 1/2 hours in a large car to the airport to pick it up.
to send or to pick up - what is the difference??????????? You still have to drive to the airport.
I am willing to freight to anyone - as long as their airport receives live reptiles. - and will continue to do so.- to help help others out with their hobby
