RE: Freshwater clams!

Good question Zeus......i was lucky to be a witness to see mine dieing. There was a big bubble rise from the clam and as it hit the surface and exploded a sound of a clam dieing popped!
How does a clam dieing sound like you may ask. Im glad you asked that question Zeus. Go to this link and youi will discover this oh so mysterious sound captured for you in stereo sound......Ooooooooooooooooooooh.

RE: Freshwater clams!

well i had 2 in my turtle tank and my turtles claws got caught in one of them. luckily i saw it happen because i dont think they would be able to swim to the top of the tank for air with a clam on their foot. so if you do keep them with ur turtles keep an eye on them!

Exactly the same thing happened with mine jimbo, I was at work and my wife had to break the mussel apart to let the turtle go!

RE: Freshwater clams!

The clams will feed on all the crap left in the water, they dont need any extra, even if the water is really clean

RE: Freshwater clams!

I've seen them in the creek that runs through the Yarramalong Valley. It flows from Mangrove dam down to Mardi. We always called them freshwater mussels. I am assuming they are they same thing.
