furniture

Hi guys I was thinking about purchasing a Display cabnet for cheap, ones with glass dorrs and converting these into reptile enclosures. How ever a lot of these have nuciance shelves in them. What do you think the best way of removing these would be?

RE: furniture

Depends how the shelves are fixed to the cabnet, if you can't see any noticable screws or plugs just grab a hammer and bash away.

RE: furniture

lol sweet as, I've just noticed a lot of display cabnets with glass doors cheap on ebay that are quite large and I've been thinking why not just grab one of those remove the shelves and add some locks instead of forking out for a brand new cage. when I could do this and have one made for under $100

RE: furniture

Something like this as an example http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....3APIC&rd=1 though I don't like the look of the gap near the right door

Maybe the screws are in the back of it

RE: furniture

Thats not bad actually that gap would probably come out if you were to let the hinge out a bit.

Either that or it wouldnt be to hard to square it up with some supports.

RE: furniture

If you cut a piece about 10cm wide straight up the middle of the shelf, then remove it, you will find shelf removal much easier.

If you just go smashing around with a hammer, you may tear out pieces of wall when the shelf comes out.

RE: furniture

Its not much to look at but I thought it would make a pretty awesome cage for my Jungle since its got plenty of height about it all I would have to do is get a light attached or attach one myself

RE: furniture

doesnt look bad

you could always turn it into a hatchie setup

with 8 sections just put some wood from top to bottom in it

get the glass and doors cut so each individiual section opens up

just a suggestion

yeah ive been looking at display cabinets to transform into an enclosure but ive been looking for ones where the draw just sits in there and comes out easily rather than it being screwed in
