| | | Hi,
I have never posted here before but I wanted some help making a decision. I have recently bought and put together a set-up for some geckos. I am in Townsville and was thinking about getting some Underwoodisaurus miliis to fill my tank because they are what is available at the pet store and all I can find at the moment (Initially I thought of Neprurus asper cause you can find them not far from here so I thought they'd be available cheaply. Coming on here and finding out what they sold for happened to be a huge shock for me.) Anyway, the problem is I was hoping to be able to breed them down the track and the two there are young but we have sexed as a male and female. Coming from the same breeder we're assuming they're probably related which is certainly not ideal. The trouble is, I still wouldn't mind buying one to fill the tank but I know that the other one will be at the store for most of its life cause people that go in do not see this as a pet.
So I wanted to ask, when are there gonna be more geckos for sale and can you get them in or to Townsville and what is the price range of this (for milii). Should I wait or should I buy the pet store one/s now. Is it alright to leave one or a bad idea? I will feel guilty. It would be perfect if both were female, but they aren't. Help with my decision would be appreciated.
Thanks |

...the hatching season for most reptiles is beginning now. Freight is simple so yes someone should be able to get them to you (or at least close enough)...
...I would always recommend buying your reptiles through a breeder as pet shops need to inflate prices considerably to pay for overheads (rent, staff etc) - also, all good breeders will provide you with significant advice and support...

You will find many people breed these guys and you should find some available as be get closer to xmas.
I for one am hoping to have some available later on.

The best beginner gecko IMO as long as you keep them cool!! My other two girls are gravid (one's about ready to pop) and the one that laid looks like she's gravid again...
Usually with the brother/sister thing it takes several generations (around 5) to manifest into any consistent deformities.. |

My suggestion would be to purchase both and another female from elsewhere. Once your 6 month holding period is up, sell the related female (which will sell easily). |

| | | | Wow that was so quick. Thanks to everyone for their replies. These are the answers I was looking for. To geckodan: Is the 6 month holding period the requirement of the license once you buy something?
Also, can you sell reptiles on the standard Qld. license and if so can you sell to anyone including pet stores? Thanks. I think I will head in today and probably take your advice and maybe buy both for now. I actually work at the store and get 20% off but I know they're still overpriced and after seeing the mark-up on our blue tongues I will try and haggle them down a lot. Haha we'll see if it works. |

There's quite a few people in Townsville and Cairns breeding Nephrurus species though.

And are you talking about aussie pet stores? If so does the discount apply to livestock as well or just products?
