Hey everybody my b'day is coming up fairly soon and as you can probably guess i am getting some more reptiles.
I was thinking about Geckos....are these easy lizards to keep bear in mind that these would be my first lizards?
How big does there enclosure have to be and are there any particular species that you would reccomend for first timers...?
Regards Alex

Hello,
I went to Ben Wrights a while ago and he is Centralian Rough Knob tailed geckos (nephurus amyae), They were huge, very cool indeed. A 2ft enclosure is big enough for a pair. I thnk they were worth about 250 each.

All depends on the type, knob-tails and other desert geckos would be good starters and can be kept in an ordinary fish tank with desert sand ect and some places to hide in during the day like some old driftwood and can be fed on roaches and crix although a more vairied diet would be better. Although they could easily be kept in a 2 foot tank I think they would be better off in a 3 foot as it allows them more room and you could always ad one or two more later on.

| Geez, this Ben Wrights sounds like a weirdo! How much does that kind of surgery cost?

I agree with Dicco, the desert geckoes are easy to keep and good for starters. I'd strongly recommend a non climbing species for your first geckoes. The Nephrurus geckoes are awesome (I'm hanging for amyae to become available here! I fell in love when I first saw them!!) But if you want something a bit cheaper, other species are available. If you want something a bit trippy, you can get triploid parthenogenetic Bynoe's geckoes, these clone themselves without help from other individuals! Crazy stuff, easy to keep, cheap to buy.
