Gecko's

Hey all,

Well i have my new gecko's now and they are awesome. I was just wondering i have them on sand atm but it looks like they get sand in and around there mouth occasionally. Is this bad for them and could it cause impaction? I seen when a thick tail got a cricket that it also got a bit of sand.

I have had them for 4 days now and when i put some crickets in with them they did not jump all over them and eat them like i thought they would. I am pretty sure the southern spotteds did not even have any. Is this bad? Can you leave the crickets in with them or can the crickets eat the gecko's?

lol the crickets wont eat the geckos but they might start laying eggs in the substrate.

Possible to have all the above- like when keeping beardies, its not recommended that to much live food to let to roam the housing quarters for long periods. Make sure they are eaten quickly/overnight etc and that your not offering to much.

Dont be overly worried about the sand- i dont know for sure re:impaction however mine do have a tendency to pick a little up from time to time and the are fine from what i can tell.

So have they eaten as yet in your care? If not it could be related to a number of things ie stress of being in new surrounds, temps, not hungry etc. As it begins to cool down for winter you will find the gex wont eat nearly as much as they normally would. Its natural.

Well the thick tails have eaten all there crickets but the southern spotted velvets have not had any yet. I will give them another feed tomorrow and see how it goes. They have the correct temp and they also have hides.
