Not good handlers, as far as I am aware (although I've never kept geckos). Pretty sure they are a 'look but don't touch' type of herp.

Best type is up to you, they eat crickets and woodies etc as far as I know, and NO they are NOT good handlers (try to pick up a gecko 'round the house). I once saved a really skinny one and I spent like 10mins trying to catch him

Krusty, are you sure they like it? Thicktails TOLERATE being handled alot more than other species.

Check out Danny's Page (http://gecko.bigpondhosting.com/geckos.htm) for some pics of the more commonly held gecko species. No geckos like to be handled - some tolerate it but most don't. I would suggest Underwoodisaurus milii as a good 'starter' gecko. There are many different species you could potentially keep however - alot with differing requirements. So you'll probably have to narrow your questions down a bit to specific species to get more detailed responses.

Thats exactly right PhilK.

I'm 100% Rocket, Chanty, and Hornet here.
Do your research on gecko. While some species will tolerate a little handling, it is highly recommended that one does not do so.

If you want a handling pet try a small snake or a beardie.

If you want to risk freakin a gecko out by handling, either killing it or have it drop its tail in distress then by all means waste your money.
