Hi everyone,
I was wondering - I recently purchased a 100% heterozygous orange ghost ball python and I'd like to know what his parents would have had to have been to get the 100% het OG genes. I have a basic understanding of genetics, etc. so multiple genes and alleles will be fine in the explanation.
Always appreciated and thanks in advance,
Olivia

His parents were more than likely a homozygous OG bred to a normal. That would result in the entire clutch being 100% het.

Could also be 2 hets or 1 het and 1 homo I think. I'm no expert though so don't trust me.
Best off waiting for the breeder's reply, can't be sure otherwise.

N = normal
n = orange ghost
So, we could have a Nn x Nn, or and Nn x nn. I'm hoping we'll have nn x Nn, but like I said, we'll see in time. I heard that there can be a 66% het and a 100% het. Anyone want to explain percentages to me, and what the difference would be?

It could have been a het x homo breeding as well.
However, with a het x het, you cannot be 100% sure that you have a het. Some will be normal, some will be het, and you usually cannot tell them apart. Usually they are advertized as 66% possible hets.

The percentages relate to the chance of being a het. If you cross 2 hets for example, you will get on average about 25% homo, 50% hets and 25% normal. The normal looking babies from this clutch should then be advertised as 66% het as thats the chance of them being het. If you don't count the homos as they'd be easy to pick out, you have aproximately 66% hets and 33% normal.
Yeah, you're right, probably not het x het, unless they bred from it already to check.

That's a zoo! xDD Do you like the childreni? I had considered one, but I dislike the body type.. How about the diamonds? I think they're gorgeous, personally.. Though the coastals, I don't think I'd have one! Have any favorites?
