apologies if this has been asked before but I haven't been able to locate an answer anywhere in the archives.
I have a fish tank for my diamond python and thought that maybe four walls of glass made him feel a bit insecure/threatened. Is it better to cover two or three sides to make him more relaxed?
I have several hides for him so he can disappear at will, but just thought I'd check.
Thanks |

| | | | With diamonds the fluctuatating temperatures caused by a glass tank would be benificial, so heat loss would not really be a problem either.

it is next to impossable and you will spend lots of dollars on heating bills and also heat lamps. |

Are you referring to bigguy’s post?
Keeping Diamonds inside and let them experience heat and cold fluctuations, as if kept outside.
I still agree with Stockeh though, it is very hard to control heat in a glass enclosure, they are just not the right things for snakes.
(Even though lots of people use them)
I would put some timber on the inside on three sides and it would also make the snake feel a bit more secure as well, no matter how many hides.
You can always just turn the heat down occasionally if you want to, but at least you can monitor it easier with the timber panels, just my opinion. |

Cheers all. |

| I think I missed that one Artie. I have been told by heaps of herpers in this area that keep diamonds about temperature fluctuations being benificial. I also thought it was common sense because in the Blue Mountains we have days that can be 19degrees and then 45 minutes later be above 30.

My Diamonds have heating only for 8 hours in summer daytime.
Less from now on, and always off at night and some times I throw a day or so in with lower temps even in summer.
Otherwise, if we just leave it just to fluctuations, we might as well have no heaters at all. |

| | | I think i need to change my style of writing or just add in some smilies I was just trying to make an addition to my point about temp fluctuations. Sorry Artie I wasn't challenging your post at all.
