It always makes me chuckle to myself when people complain about the price of GTP's. If you kept parrots, the 'supreme' that you aim for is the macaws, varying from a few thou per pair to ten thou each. People pay over a thousand dollars for a cat, over two for a dog. Some fish, that's fish for goodness sake are worth over $1000. It's really not that expensive, it's just that we can get so many other great pythons so cheap that we find it so outrageous. The fact remains, if you don't want to fork out the dough, don't. Myself, I have no problem with the idea that an absolutely beautiful, highly unique python has a price tag of $5000AU.

I agree totally, Magpie. Interesting that the macaw and b&y jungles etc all vary in price depending on the colours and lineage. GTP's are a long way off that sort of choice. At the moment your'e lucky just to get them.
US have high yellows and blue vairiants etc, from their influx of wild caughts of course but there is a long, long way before ours get anywhere near this, as there are only a handful of breeders at the moment, all working with limited initial stock.

Would we hold spotted pythons to the same reverence if they were as rare on paperwork? People love white lipped / albertis and yes I would like them in my collection but it could be argued that they are just 'a more irredescent childreni with a white lip and attitude'. Would someone pay $5000 for one? Pygmy/AntHill pythons are another example because they are 'just a small childrens', but they would fetch top dollar I'm sure.
It is the rarity that attracts the dollar.
Anything that is collected by humans has rare and common items, these appeal to us differently, we are just playing with pokemon cards in essence.
Cheers
