half colour half plain python

hi

i had my coastal carpet python out today and he has lovelly colourings
but tonight i noticed that from his middle section to his head is very nice but from the middle section to his tail is all dont know any other way to say it but its faded really dull looking compared to the rest of him where his faded and coloured section meet its almost a perfect line around him as well

does this mean anything??

on another subject
when i bought him the shop i got him from gave me 2 bags of frozen i think fuzzy mice (not newborn but they got some hair) and they told me to feed him 1 every week when both bags are empty he should be due to move onto a larger size

well just thinkning about it last feed i gave him one and 5 minutes at the most it was completely gone he ate alot faster than usual should i next time give him say 2 or move onto larger mice next feed?

and would it be ok to give him a adult mouse as one of the mice i use to breed will not mate at all anymore and i was thinking maybe feed her to the snake and not feed him for say a fortnight

any/all suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Yeah, partial shed was the first thing I thought of.

As far as feeding goes, try giving him two next feed, or even three. Even if he can take larger food items, might aswell feed out what you've got and not waste it.

In regards to your female non-breeder, you will need to kill the mouse before you feed as it's illegal - and cruel - to feed live rodents to reptiles.

Hixy,
I love your style with the mouse, very pragmatic and straight to the point.

Get it? Got it? Good!

he is a juvenille about 45 50cms long my first thought was half a shed but i thought i should ask in case it may be something else

well is this normal only half a shed
i would have taken a photo but i only have my phone with a camera at the moment and that doesnt really show the difference

dont worry ill make sure the mouse is dead if i ended up feeding it to him

if i feed him two is there sort of a time limit between feeds or as soon as one is gone put the next one in with him?

Let him get the first one down to his belly and then offer the next food item, and if it's half a shed then you would be able to see and feel the extra layer of skin on him and if it is his shed then soak him in 30c water for 15 mins and he might be able to get the rest off himself.

Any chance of seeing a pic jeramie? Would make helping you a lot easier, although it certainly sounds like a retained slough.

I contacted NPWS a few years ago when my stimmie refused to eat anything for 6 months. I asked them if it was illegal to feed live food, they said that it wasn't. Apparently it is the RSPCA that is against it. But things may have changed since then. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If it is a half shed, just make the water warm to the touch. Don't make it hot, just warm.

I put my guys in a bucket with a lid on it and enough water to submerge their boby at 30 degrees celcious and leave them in there for 15mins and they always seem really relaxed to me when i get them out, they seem to enjoy it.

well i think i may have done something wrong my lil guy didnt seem to like going near the water at all so i tipped some out and made it warmish because i thought maybe he was scared from it maybe being too hot i got him in there for maybe 5 mins before i took him out he was thrashing about in there which i was worried about and then the reason i took him out was he was starting to get his head under there for too long i thought he was drowning

maybe im just a chicken or something
