Hatchling Enclosure

Hi Guys,

I've set up my enclosure for the Bredli hatchling I'll be getting next weekend and wanted to check I've done everything right (pics attached). I'll be using newspaper as substrate.

I've used a 5 litre plastic click clack container with a heat mat which I've attached to a thermostat set on 29 degrees. I have also put a thermometer at the warm end. I've put in two pieces of dowling for him to crawl around on, a heavy water bowl and a light bulb hide box at the cool end.

One thing concerning me is the enclosure temperature. Its a very warm day today in Sydney and the thermo reading in the enclosure is hovering on 30 degrees so the heat mat has not actually turned on as yet. It does work as I've tested it without the thermostat.

Would this mean that the entire enclosure temperature is at 30 degrees? eg no cooler area...is this a problem? I'll be checking the mat and temperature tonight when it cools down to see if its all working.

Any comments/suggestions appreciated.

I've been having a similar problem with room temperature (also testing out a click-clack) with all the blinds drawn I have managed to get the temp down to about 26 in the cool end...

Unfortunately the weather has been terrible in regards to heat

I have those stick on thermometers one in the hot and cool end. If you, can drill some holes in the side of the cool end to get a better gradient and put a digital thermometer in the hot end. Around 32 in hot end and 26 in cool end is pretty good.

I've put more holes in the side which is the cool end.

I guess if he really wants to cool down he can hop in his water bowl?

yep. just watch him for a bit and see which part of the enclosure he favours and that should help you wether he is regulating temps.
