It's 3 levels high with an 80watt heat cord from the herp shop connected to a pulse thermo. Each level has three grooves routed into it about 2 inches apart where the heat cord lies.
I am using starmaid containers however if I have them sitting so that their shorter side is running parallel with the cord I am struggling to make the desired temps, if I turn them around so their longer side is parallel, it's getting to a higher temp but is still taking a long time. Now where the rack is currently located it is quite cold and being in Melbourne that doesn't help.
I thought using three runs of an 80 watt heat cord I wouldn't have any trouble making the desired temps but not so. Other then moving the whole rack to a warmer room is their anything else I can do, or something I have missed? I have also put some foam insulation under the shelf to keep the heat in but it only had a minimal effect. The only other thing I can think of is adding more runs of the heat cord.
Any idea's?

Is it worth making a small square with some wood and placing a thin layer of sand in this directly above the heat cord and then place the tub over the thin layer of sand? As the tubs I am using are not perfectly flush and I think there might be some loss of efficiency there?

I'd also have a well insulated hide right above the heat cord. This well help retain a lot of the heat creating a nice spot for the gex to go into to warm up.

I would get some flat bottomed tubs and have a thin layer of sand above the heat cord (in the tub) but if you want to keep the tubs you have then yes, what you suggested may help a little.

What temp is the room dropping to at night.
Could you post a pic? PM or email it to me at junglerobb@hotmail.com
Should be easy to sort out. |

The room gets quite cold at night as its not insulated and being in Melbourne, but even during the day it takes a long time to heat up.
