Heat cord as a primary heat source for pythons

Hi all
I've just finished making a new three bank enclosure (photos to follow at a later date)and I'm ready to fit it out with lights, heaters, thermostats, etc..... I normally go with a non-light emmiting ceramic heat globe however I read a thread that heat cord is being used! What is everyone thoughts on using heat cord as a primary heat source for pythons????? (in the floor or in substrate)

So far the advantages are! it a lot cheaper, less foreign objects exposed to the pythons (ie cord built into the floor),

disadvantages are nil at this point!

i found that heat cord varys too much. I used it in a fridge incubator and it works okay in a small bar fridge, but i don't like it in a largish fridge. Temps jump too much. This is my opinion and some swear by it.

I plan on using a heat cord in my new enclosure, it will be attached to the back of a fibre glass rock wall and cave that i am goin to make. it will be the primary source of heating for the whole enclosure and will be hooked up to a digital thermostat. i have a diagram of what it should look something like on one of my other threads if you need an idea of what im talking about. ive spoken to a few reptile dealers/breeders about my design and they believe that it should work well. so i cant see a problem with it myself.

i have 3 bredli solely on heat mats at the moment and room temp stays around 20 degrees all day but drops as low as 5 degrees at night. i have been told from many people that you cant do this. but there is a small minority around here that keep all there pythons like that and they are all fit and healthy. after 6 months of keeping them like this i have not come across a problem. BUT winter is still yet to come
