ok guys,
the question i hav is where if at all would u put a heat mat on a mdf/wooden enclosure? under the substrait or under the enclosure (although i wouldnt imagine much heat to go through wood/mdf?) correct me if im wrong?

i just purchased a heat cord. do you have yours in the cage (under the substrate) or under the cage?...i have a glass cage and the heat travels through pretty well

yeah i keep my heat mats under the cages...but one doesnt seem to be warming up enough (where as the previous one burnt the table because it got too hot..got rid of that one)

I have always wondered about this. I always figured underneath the tank but then again the big glass tanks I have are fairly heavy..so I'm not sure.

for the point of the exercise to save ur wooden enclosure a basking/heat lamp would be prefered?

If you have a thick floor, put it inside the enclosure under the substrate keep a close eye on surface temp for a day or 2 and make sure your animal cant sit directly on it.

ive just built an enclosure for a blackhead and i am putting a 40w mat in the inside of the customwood enclosure but i am placing a 6mm cement sheet on top to spread the heat and have it on a thermostat then put my kittylitter susbstrate on top of that
i have modeled mine off a reptile shops owners set up

the mat is 10w and the cord is 15w....but the mat is about 25-30cm x10cm and then it has the bit that the power cord attatches to making it even narrower...
