| | Regular Member | | | | just wandering if many people use heat tape? as in sort of a rack system. i know a few people who have racks with heat tape on there with all there juvenile stuff in click clack containers and also there elapids in big tubs on heat tape as well. Just wanted to know if it is very common, as i have about 10 click clacks with juvi's in them.

I have a few tubs on tape at the moment through a rheostat and thermostat but seems to be a temp difference between the two levels of about 4 degrees. This is not a problem really but I would like to even out the two layers and just maybe, cord is the way to go. |

The cord is controlled by a probe thermostat. Stupidly I've placed the cages up high so I can't monitor them properly so I'm not using them at the moment.
This weekend I intend to make a proper rack so I can use them but I seem to be able to maintain a temp of about 28 in the cage with the floor right above the groove about 35 - 40.
And the heat cord is only 15 watt and is heating 3 600 X 300 X 300 cages. |

I sandwiched it between two layers of MDF, (9mm), and was unable to get a reasonable control over the temperatures. Thanks for that Fuscy, I will try a thinner top board and see how that goes |

Build one. Theres no better way to house juvi snakes than in racks systems, especially large numbers.
You can give each individual snake what it needs all in a compact area so cleaning, feeding etc is alot easier.
They are pretty simple to make just make sure the tubs you use are all the same height and they sit nice and tight against the roof.
This is the first rack i ever built and i'm still using it, houses up to 30 snakes in a area of 50cmWx30Dx1500H. They can be made to any size you like. |
