i use heat tape for my little containers with half on the tape and half off, it works great. I dont have any problems with feeding/cleaning it makes it all very easy(sort of).

A few people i know use heat tape on the back wall of a rack system for hatchies and juvies. Not so much mucking around with putting the heat tape on each layer and still gets a good gradient...........controlled by one thermostat....

I've tried it that way but it doesn't provide a good basking area, whereas if you have underneath snakes can lie right on it. I also found it took longer to get the tubs heated that way, staying on longer.
I put the heat tape in as i build it rack so it's not much mucking around.

Do you just use one thermostat to control each rack and do the temps stay pretty even from bottom to top?

I have one thermostat controlling each unit, as long as the total heat tape wattage isn't higher than the stats then it's all good, i keep it at about 30-40 tubs per thermostat.

hey noOne do those tubs have lids or no lids?what species of pythons do you keep in there? im trying to get a good idea of how to make a similar sort of design and i wanna try it without lids as i have seen things i like about this sort of design. also if anyone else has pics of there rack systems and/or heat tape system it would be greatly apreciated to be able to view it

i have built a rack system. It uses resistance wire and is controlled by my own built proportional controller. Each shelf acts as the roof for the container below it. Has been running for a couple of months now and it kicks ****.
I will take some pics soon and post them.
Cheers
Luke

Heres a few of my rack setups.
The first being where I house my Spotted, Stimsons and Childreni. These racks are heated with 30cm heat tape running along the shelve under each tub. The shelve above is the lid so saves heaps of time cleaning. Each unit is 180cm,s high, 90cm's wide and 60cm's deep and hold 24 tubs.
The second unit is for hatchlings heated the same way, except with 10cm heat tape. These units are 180cm's high, 90cm's wide and 40cm's deep. These units hold 80 tubs for the hatchlings.

thats awesome bob. how many thermostats do you use for each unit? and also you must have spent a fortune on breeders choice to do all your enclosures. how much bc would you need to fill 2x 4x2ft enclosures?
