Hi All,
I got my snake finally! I got a Bredli and he is as awesome.
I am posting as I have a heater mat under the sand in one corner of the tank, which is creating a great gradiant of heat from one end of the tank to the other, but the sand directly on top of the heater is getting pretty hot.
i am just wondering how hot it should get up to and what is the standard heat of the ground directly above a heater mat?
Cheers
Bret

i don't keep bredls but i imagne it would be around the 30-32 degree mark, buy yourself a dimmer from the herpshop so you can control the heat mat temps better

I would suggest investing in a probe thermostat and placing the probe itself on top of the heat mat.
If you are not going to use a thermostat be careful about the insulating properties of anything you have around (on top of) the heat mat. Even at low wattages you can get quite build up of heat if the mat is well insulated.

Thanks guys,
I am thinking of just sticking with the lights for the main heat and then getting one of these heated rocks that sits at around 26 degrees.
Does anyone know anyone, near Syd CBD that would sell live fuzzy mice for food?
Cheers

i didnt think you could use the heatpads in the tank, i thought they would have gone under the tank as they are not usually a sealed unit,,might be wrong though

A couple of things, I wouldn't keep it on sand, it CAN cause all sorts of problems with the belly scales and gets ingested easily. I know they crawl on sand in the wild but they aren't in the wild.
There is no way of knowing how hot a heatmat will get without knowing the wattage, also run a thermostat with it to stop it overheating.
