I've had one ceramic go on me. The big trouble is telling that they have blown. But I inspect the cages daily.

Yeah, but how long did it last before it blew? Betcha it was a long time! ;-) Easy solution - use a thermometer with a BIG temp readout. You can see at a glance as you walk past the cage if anything is wrong! ;-)

That one only lasted six months. No other one has ever failed me. I use you easy solution.

Well guys thanx for all the replys, looks like i'll go for ceramics!

With the pearlco ceramics do you still need the larger cage? They look like the size of a normal lightglobe, or am i worng?

They are a bit bigger than a normal lightbulb. You will need a slightly larger than normal mesh housing for them, and make sure you use the all-ceramic edison fitting for them cause they can get quite hot.
but im sure if the fitting is rated for 150watts ect then it should be fine for a ceramic of the same wattage.
