Heating

I have just bought a diamond python, and I've got a 60watt ceramic heat bulb at one end,a thermostat on the back wall in the middle of the cage and a UV light at the other end. What temp. should I set the thermostat at?

Diamond pythons usually prefer a temperature gradient from 18c to 26c

if you set the thermostat at say 26c and it is some distance from the heat source then the heat maybe actually at say 32c below this point. do a few temp checks to see your hottest and coldest areas and adjust the thermostat to suit. if it is a larger enclosure it will not phase the python as he will regulate himself. its only a real concern if a small enclosure

Don't go off the thermostat numbers, rather, use a thermometer to get your temps right.

My enclosure is 1m x 600mm x 600mm. I have done temp. checks and it was getting to 32 degrees directly under the ceramic heat lamp and the bottom of the enclosure in the middle it was 27 degrees at at the opposite end it was 24 degrees. Would you say that's ok?
