Heating Question

Hey,

I have setup my future enclosure for my pair of coastals as I have them inside 10lt plastic containers and have them inside the big enclosure to control the temps.

I have a thermometer that has two probes on it so that I can measure the hot/cold ends at the same time, the heat is supplied by a 60W red heat globe however the hot/cold ends are 25/22 degrees, 6 inches under the globe the temp is 38 degrees, this will make for a good basking spot but the rest of the enclosure seems to decrease to dramatically, do you think I might need a high wattage for the globe? I have the thermostat probe in the center and it is set to 30 degrees, but I don't think it will ever turn off. The temp of the room the enclosure is in is at 21 degrees at the moment so the cold end isn't much warmer than the rest of the room.

You'd probably be better off with using heat tape for the small tubs until the snakes are released into larger enclosures.

I can put a pic up in a few days, my camera is out of action at the moment. It is just a box made of melamine wood 1200mm x 450mm x 600mm with sliding glass doors.

The tubs are ok inside the enclosure cause I can have them partially under the heat lamp so they would have an inside gradient of 32+/26+ degrees. I am just worried that when I do finally release them into the big enclosure it will be too cold.

I also have a small thermometer that I can place inside the tubs to check the temps to make sure they are ok.

Cheers.
