Help!!! - Heat Lighting For My Childrens Python

I have just built a Vivarium and unfortunately put a Bayonet connection in for the heat lamp. Well of course I go out shopping and find that all the heat lamps are Screw-ins. I have picked up a Crompton 75 Watt Blacklight Blue globe that emits UV-A. Is this going to be a problem for my Childrens Python or will this be ok. I don't want to change my light fitting if possible. Also, is there any heat lights (preferebly red) with bayonet cap fittings out there??? My vivarium is 600x400x400mm. Thanks!!

There's party globes, that come in 25watt and 40watt I'm not sure if that'd produce enough heat though, which state are you in?

75w will most likely be too hot for that cage mate. You can buy blue or red 'party globes' from Bunnings for a couple of bucks each. They come in 25w and 40w.

It is running on a thermostat which is working fine. So I'm hoping that the 75w is ok. I tried a 60w globe in there for testing, but was unable to get the vivarium up to 30 degrees.

Yeah, I'm in Melbourne too. I had a 60w globe running for a while last night and I don't think it triggered the thermostat to turn off the light. May have to run some more tests. Do party globes hit 60w??

Most are 25, or 40 watt, if you don't require it for night heating the small coles reflector globes work well.

Well I have just picked up a 3 month old Childrens python today, so I will keep the temp fairly constant for a while. I will check out the party globes though and see how we go.

You don't want the whole vivarium to heat up to 30 degrees mate. It should be about 30 degrees directly under the heat source where the python will go to heat up. The cool side of the enclosure should be down near 25 degrees.

hi bud, i have a childrens python, they dont need uv lights, use the light fitting for a ceramic heater, and put a floresent tube in, 20w would be more than enough, all my set up has is a heat mat conected to a thermostat, and a floresent light and she is doing fantastic, hope this helps

My Thermostat is placed on the back wall directly under the heat source. I have the Python in a smaller plastic cage at the moment as it is obviously quite small. I have that sitting in the middle of the cage so one end is under the light and the other end is out. I will pick up a 40w party light tomorrow and see how that goes. As I want it for night heating as well, I prefer something that keeps the light down a little as I have a flouro in the vivarium as well.
