I have to agree, get something like a Childreni, Stimpsoni or Maculosa that won't grow much past a metre.

You could not go past a childrens python............... They are placid and easy to care for. And if its like mine it wont eat for 4 months of the year !!!!!! lol.

Every place I spoke to recommended Diamond Pythons for the best 1st snake, I too was going to get a childrens.

Was told by 3 out of 3 shops that childrens can be snappy as youngsters, but most grow out. Was told you do get placid ones by they have more of an uncertain temperment compared with the diamonds.

But Diamonds grow much larger and cost more (mine was $395), so depends on space and money too. They also require UV lighting, and lower temperatures.

So far mines so placid it wont even strike its food, just goes up and gives it a cuddle then gulps it down.

Even if some childrens pythons are snappy as hatchlings, they are so small you don't even feel it.

Pepper. People will give you different responses, it is up to you. Your best bet would be to find peope in your area that keep snakes and see if you can handle some. This will give you a better idea of what you want. If you want something small, childreni, stimsoni or maculosa are good snakes.

I'm fairly new here and I recently got my first and bought a Diamond and couldn't be happier. It's really up to the individual.
