RE: Herpetology

I guess you could do the biology/zoology thing and specialise or go to JamesCook in Townsville.

RE: Herpetology

Hydro do you keep reptiles?...if the answer is yes then you are already a herpetologist, if you do it privately than you a amiture herper if you do it as a job then you a professional herper.
Unfortunately there isnt any Uni cousres as such, but you can do what Peterscue said and BSc Science and Major in Reptiles....and yes James Cook would be the best for herpers...

Re: Herpetology

Maybe look at Animal Science or Biological Science at Latrobe University. Not sure about how much emphasis is on reptiles though.

Look for the specialized Uni for courses like this, I did my Bsc Marine Biology at James Cook Uni in Townsville. I was a straight into the core subject not like the ones offered al Syd Uni where you spend about 3 years doing subject that don't relate to the end speciality.

As for subjects you may have to Bsc in Zoology and then move to specialise on reptiles.

Zoology subjects include English, Maths B and Chemistry

I disagree with that.

If you keep reptiles you are an herpetoculturalist (or herpetoculturist).

An herpetologist is a scientist who conducts research on reptiles - research like metabolic studies, oxygen-consumption, developmental and other physiological studies. And of course, the ever popular ecology and natural history. And most herpetologists, professional or otherwise, publish scientifically vetted papers.

All just my opinion of course.

Not sure, haven't heard of one.

Harry Ehmann was running one through TAFE about 15 years ago, but then I think he moved to Sth Australia. Not sure what he's doing now, or whether he's still teaching.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Herpetology

a dictionary discribes a herpetolgist as 'someone versed in herpetology or the natural history of reptiles'sounds like a few ppl i know..they'll be surprised to know that theyre not really herpetologists cos there arnt any letters after their name ,but yrs of experience ,im sure they'll have a giggle lol
