Hi DragonKeeper,

It sounds like it could be good fundamentals for further education, but you need to weigh up the worth, as i think you will find that most of the things the course may cover will be covered again if you go on to do a degree at UNI. It might be best to focus on a good UAI and find a UNI that does the course you want, besides UNI is good fun.... Also i know of people that have completed a degree/honours in Ecology and have gone on to do zoology type work with zoos and other organisations.

In the end its what you really want to do - dont see any harm in you increasing your knowledge with this ACS course though.

Good Luck!

Im in my 2nd year at adelaide uni studying animal science. the last time i did physics was in yr 10!! Ha ha, we got a choice in first year between a whole year of physics or 1 sem of environmental bio and 1 sem of statistics. Env bio was crappy, but stats was good. also did same old biology and chem, which wasn't too bad, but now i've got biochem in 2nd year..... yuck, lol.

Does it really take 6 years? Wow thats a lot, lol. How much does B Science cost?
It is usually 3 years full time but Im distance ed part time

It costs me between $2500 - $5000 a year in HECS depending on amount of subjects (but Im pre2005HECS not HELP which is more $$ I think)
around $400 a semester for text books if you buy them all (which is recommended)
plus I have to pay for accommodation in Armidale for residential schools
Uni isnt cheap, especially a science -but worth it and you dont have to pay HECS upfront

Hey dragonkeeper!

I'm in year 12 myself, and up til end of last year i was looking into doing BSc (Bachelor of Science) majoring in Zoology at UWA (university of western australia). It's flexible how much time u spend there, to my knowledge the firts 3 years is pretty general BSc stuff, then the next few years u specialise, then specialise some more. Basically, the more time u spend there, the greater ur qualifications. So lyk i sed, i was planning on heading down that road myself then at the beginning of this year changed my mind and am now planning on going into Vet.

Vet's a 5 year course, and i've heard that the first 3 years you cover BSc stuff anyways, but its more focused to animals. Wat this means is that (because Vet is sooooo much harder to get into) you cld probably go into BSc, do 3 years BSc then get the credits to transfer to vet, or just continue with ur BSc.

It sounds lyk ur lyk me, in that u just want to no everything about herps rite away I've done quite a lot of research into different courses and stuff, and found 1 course in a uni in Texas i think it was that offers a herpetology course.

Just be patient. Lyk some hav suggested, why don't u just do the reading urself now ? Cos i no that if ur anything lyk how i was in year 10, getting urself into something on a whim generally ends in u getting over it pretty quickly lol. If ur really passionate, just do the research - thats wat ive been doing.

Tim

When I was in year 12 and looking for Uni courses to apply for I found a Bachelor of Tropical Herpetology that is offered At the University of Townsville. That might be something worth looking into when you are in year 12.
