PhilK, perhaps they were thawed too quickly (like in boiling water) and became weaker ?

I use a heat mat, or occasionally hot water if I'm impatient. | You will only defront once in a microwave. If it does not explode in the microwave the snake will explode it. Rat internal organ in an enclosure is no fun at all and it stinks.

My murray darling popped his rat the other day it was so disgusting. he was covered in rat guts and so slimy and yukky and SMELLY. i bathed him after much to his disgust, but it was the worst smell. Thank god he gets fed in a seperate container which got a nice hot shower to TRY and get rid of the smell. He always has mishaps with his food.

i leave mine out in the sink over night but i do 20-30 at a time not just 1 or two, then i put them in the bags in a bucket of warm water which i take to the snake room with me. The snakes seem to know its feed time, i have a few that slide side to side on the glass untill they get fed, some even hang out the door as it opens.

I use warm water - just tolerable to put your hand in, put a bunch of rats into a bucket and sit them out in the sun for about 1/2 an hour. They are perfectly defrosted by that time. I take them out of the bucket, rub them down with a towel and feed them to the snakes. I am always careful not to give the snakes rodents that are too warm to the touch - I don't know how sensitive their mouths are to heat and I'm not going to take any chances. Never had a rat explode but have had a few bleed (for want of a better word) if they are struck really hard.

i use a glass jar as i only use pinkie rats at the moment and put a plastic thing inside and put the rats in that and fill the jar with hot water and they defrost good and are not wet when they are fed to the snake. i use the microwave once and it exploded straight away.

bag them and put them in hot water in the sink, but im thinking of using the bath tub idea, saving water in a drought. fantastic.
