How does a gecko fit in the egg? (sad pic attached)

Well I had my first ever stillbirth yesterday. This little guy was due to hatch, then in the morning I saw his nose poke out of the egg, and 12 hours later I checked again and he was still in the exact same position.
I peeled a little of the egg back for him just in case he was just resting, but it was pretty clear that he wasn't breathing or moving and was just dead.
So I peeled the rest of the egg back to find that he was well formed, but still had plenty of egg-yolky stuff attached to him, so he really wasn't ready to hatch after all.

I suspect that perhaps the egg was not structurally sound (I've had trouble putting condition back onto his mother after laying recently but she just keeps laying). I think that the egg wall may have been too thin and perhaps he started to move around a little in the egg being so close to full-term and his nose accidently burst through a little bit.

Wow that is interesting but unfortunately sad. Must be very disappointing after all that time for that to happen

Sometimes this stuff just happens. Don't read into it too far, everyone will get still borns once in a while... or like me all the time.
