How well do beardy hatchies freight?

And what about crickets and bug type stuff?

I am looking into a couple of beardies but the nearest place to buy them is 300km's away.

Um... bugs do well with freight... there may be a couple dead ones, but they should do fine... especially if they're boxed with a piece of carrot.

Beardies handle freight perfectly fine. I've freighted quite a few of my own hatchlings interstate, anywhere from 3 weeks of age onwards - and I've not yet had a single problem. Most of them are settled in and eating at their new home within hours of arriving on their flight. I have also had adults freighted to me, no probs whatsoever.

Hi Dintony. Any reptile will suffer some kind of stress from transport. No matter if it is by car or air. How each animal is affected will differ from individual to individual. I have had 3 week old beardies transported in my car for 2 hours. When I got them home they didn't eat for a few days but once they settled they were fine. Plenty of people have had beardies transported via air and they lived to fight another day. It is best to buy local for a number of reasons and stress during transport is one reason. If you are concerned avoid transport companies that don't specialize in reptiles or drive to pick up the animal yourself. Hope this helps.

Dintony - Freight is easy not an issue at all...Beardies, in particular, are very hardy and cope fine...

I have sent and received a number of animals via air freight and also road freight - no issues whatsoever - I actually think the freight is less stressful than the change to a new environment...the animal will be in a small, dark space which is what they feel 'safe' in...

It is a little daunting freighting the first time but you will be amazed how simple it is...

...freighting also lets you choose from a much larger selection of animals to pick the one you want rather than having to only buy what is available locally...

I get my woodies by freight also, no probs there, maybe one or two dead ones, but generally they arrive just fine, sometimes with a few escapees.

Mine done pretty well, they went from Brisbane to sydney and then sydney to Wagga. I had the whole enclosure set up for their arrival and they settled in really quickly and nailed a few crickets within half an hour of being here.
