hybrid beardies?

hey guys, i know most people hate hybrid pythons etc.

but what about beardies, the well known 'german giants' were bred from large easterns and large centrals. which were originally exported before the laws were made... is this not frowned upon.. your opinions?

keep in mind there were some problems reported when they initially cross bred the species... casualties int he hatchlings. also what are your opinions on other hybrid beardies (this one im not too fond of) but some one over seas bred a pogona henrylawsonii (rankins/pygmy) with a central pogona viticeps.. and produced (A FREAK) a 'different' looking thing.. i dont think it was afully successful..

anyway, your opinion?

totally disagree with that.

In the US and Europe (and probable here too) lawsoni x viticeps hybrids are quite common. They call them vitikins. Quite frankly why?

Any pogona cross is a waste of oxygen.

I don't agree with this practice. And it's not somthing I'd do, Easterns are easterns. Centrals are Centrals.

I personally don't agree with crossing barbata and vitticeps.

I've heard of those 'Vittikins' dragons, is there anything the yanks won't do??

As for the German Giants ... Dragon Lady's boy Merlin is proof that you don't have to crossbreed to get a nice big beardie!!

you mean the dragon shes describing?

because thats not too large for its age.. my 'puppy' was 18 inches at arround 7 months, and grew full size WELL before he was a year old... than again after the fast growing he's still not HUGE for an adult (20 ") he just had a growth spurt..

if dragon lady's dragon grew to a full size of 24 inches or over, i would call it a big beardie.

Ten months, 19" and 470g is definately a big dragon! And yes that's Dragon Lady's boy Merlin that she is describing. Even if he doesn't grow any bigger than that (which is unlikely), he is still a big boy. My biggest dragon Phoenix is 20" and 500g (at six years old) and she's an absolute monster compared to most.

I guess its very similar to carpet pythons, a hybrid eastern x central will look similar to a natural intergrade, just like coastalxdiamonds etc.

IMO its probably not really much worse than mixing localities for colours, but it is still illegal to make them in most states. Not much to gain from it either IMO.

Some pure aussie dragons get bigger than the german giants anyway im fairly sure, around SE qld(probably many other places too) beardies get over 2' long.
