HYBRID: an organism that is the offspring of genetically dissimilar parents or stock; especially offspring produced by breeding plants or animals of different varieties or breeds or species; "a mule is a hybrid of a horse and a donkey" - so in pythons a hybrid would be a woma x carpet or similair
INTEGRADE: An animal which shows the mixed characteristics of two subspecies at the border of both their ranges - My understanding is that this is naturally occuring. For example, at the border of diamond python/coastal carpet habitat, intergrades can occur because diamond pythons and coastal carpets are subspecies of the same species ( Morelia spilota)
Make sense? |

So what happens when someone is purchasing a snake i.e Diamond, is it difficult to determine where its heritage is from? pure/intergrade and so forth?
I dont really want to start anything, i just want to get a better undstand of species and localities |

Make sense? | Perfect!!!! Thats about as good a definition as I have seen.
BUT ......... where does a Coastal from Brissie crossed with a Sydney "Diamond" python fit into this?? That is where all the debate comes from mate. I dont think the definition takes into account captive crossing of the subspecies.

Brisbane Coastal X Diamond in captivity would be a Hybrid, a man made designer animal. Cross any 2 species or subspecies and you have a man made hybrid. |
