many of the post that ive read on this site seem to 'show' unhygienic ways. i was just wondering what you really do behind the scenes.

Yes, you see alot of photos of people displaying poor hygiene, like introducing new animals to each other for no reason at all, except for a photo seems common.

Basic things like washing your hands and husbandry tools between animals etc with products like F10 is easy enough to do.

Also keeping animals seperate for the most part is important, if you want to prevent the spread of anything nasty that might pop-up.

I keep 90% of my animals on paper, clean with F10SC, use F10SC Hand Gel in between animals and have a seperate area for new animals to go in for 3-6 months. Seperate feeding equipment etc for different banks.

I must admit, I am a culprit of that sometimes. It is usually because the animals have just shed, have had a crap and are sitting in a nice pose for a photo. So I shoot first, clean second......LOL

I only keep one snake so don't have any idea... But if all your pythons live in the one room, aren't diseases going to spread/gain access to ALL the pythons? Regardless of washing hands etc.

Not necessarily PhilK. Correct hygene protocols will dramatically reduce the chances of cross contamination, so it is important to follow these to help reduce the spread of viruses and the like in a collection.

Don't lick your snake or eat its poo and you won't get salmonella from it

I would suggest buying a big supply of toilet paper.

I wash hands before, after, and in between different animals. I remove soiled substrate immediately, and replace food/water regularly. Even my cricket breeding and raising tanks are spotless. A clean environment is the key to healthy happy animals... or at least one huge step towards!
